Army University, Biu, matriculates 1,016 fresh students

THE newly established Nigeria Army University, Biu, in Borno State on Thursday matriculated a total of 1,016 students for the 2018/2919 academic session in all the faculties of the University.

 

While speaking at the maiden matriculation ceremony held in Biu the Vice-Chancellor Prof David Malgwi, said that the students were admitted based on accepted requirements set by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

 

David Malgwi further explained that 202 students were admitted into the Faculty of Computing, 180 into the Faculty of Engineering, 104 into the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, 369 in Faculty of Management and Social Science, while Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences has 161 students and Faculty of Arts management and social sciences, 369.

 

The Vice Chancellor also said that apart from the students being matriculated, the University has also admitted 1,000 students to undergo the Institution’s remedial programme and urged the students to shun all forms of vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, hooliganism and indecent dressing.

David Malgwi however assured the students that the Institution has taken measures to ensure the safety of lives and property in the University and the host community, and therefore urged them to be security conscious because according to him, security is everybody’s business.

 

While administering the matriculation oath to the students, Brig Gen S. Ibrahim, the University’s Registrar, said that the students were all admitted on merit.

 

In his speech, Lt.Gen.Tukur Brutai, the Chief of Army Staff who is the Chairman, Governing Council of the institution, commended the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu,  for ensuring the establishment of the university.

 

Tukur Burutai who was represented by Maj.Gen. Chukwuemeka Okwankwo, the Legal Adviser of the Institution,  commended members of the implementation committee of the institution for committing their time and resources to see the university became a reality.

 

He further called on the newly matriculated students to be law-abiding and be productive citizens of the society.
