SIX suspects, including a staff of Parents Teachers Association (PTA), have been arrested and detained at Iyaganku Police station over the murder of the Commandant of Command Secondary School, Ibadan, Colonel Anthony Okeyim on Monday.
The suspects, who were arrested on Tuesday, according to sources are currently at the state Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
One of the suspects’ family member revealed that “their father and breadwinner is innocent” and pleaded for his release .
“Our father is an old man who does not know anything about the killing of the army officer. He was employed by the PTA as a watchman for the students’ hostel. He hates murder and cannot hurt a fly. They should please release him because he is a poor man looking for his daily bread.”
When contacted, the Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the arrest.
He added that the investigation of the murder of the late Army officer was being handled by the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Iyaganku, Ibadan.
While stating that the police was treating the incident as a suspected case of murder, the command’s spokesman appealed to anyone with useful information on the killing to assist the police to apprehend the killers.
He said “No arrest made yet. We are still intensifying investigation . We will neither fail nor falter in our efforts to unravel the circumstances that led to the gruesome murder of that promising military officer.
“We enjoin anyone with useful information that could help nab the culprits to give it to the police.”
