Army donates teaching, writing materials to Osun community school

The Nigerian Army Engineer Construction Command, Ede, Osun State in continuation of its ‘Exercise Still Water III’, on Thursday donated learning and writing materials to students of Temidire Elementary Model Primary School, Ibodi Ijesha in Atakumosa West Local Government Area of the state.

Some of the materials donated to the students are; maker boards, exercise books, pens, pencils, markers, erasers as well and refreshments.

Speaking after delivering the materials to the management of the school, the Commander, Engineer Construction Command, Ede, Brigadier General Kabiru Suleiman, who was represented by Lieutenant Colonel Olufemi Akinfotire, said the gesture was in fulfilment of the Chief of Army Staff’s vision of transforming the Army into a highly motivated force.

He noted that the event was part of the Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities of the Nigerian Army which is aimed at fostering cooperation between the civil populace and the military in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.

He said, “We are here this morning in continuation of “Exercise Still Water III” on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff to present these training and learning aids to the students and teachers of this school and to boost the cooperation between us and the civil populace.

“This is in line with the Chief Of Army Staff vision which is to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional role.

“We are here for our Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities which is to foster the cooperation between the civil populace and the military in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.

“The Chief of Army Staff has said his vision is a joint environment and to achieve this, the military cannot do it alone. The military can only 20 per cent while the other 80 per cent is vested in the government.”

Appreciating the gesture, the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Christina Abiona, promised the judicious use of the materials.

“We want to appreciate the effort of the Nigeria Army for their gesture and we are promising that we will make good use of the material.”
