Army depot offers free medical services to Kano community

The Nigerian Army Depot Zaria on Wednesday, offered one-day free medical services for residents of Gada-Biyu community of Falgore, in Doguwa Local Government Area of Kano state.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the free medical outreach was part of activities of the 78 Regular Recruits intake tagged ‘Exercise Kun Gama’.

Speaking at the event,  Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, said the activities of the Nigerian army in the area would enhance the existing cordial relationship between the Military and the people.

Buratai was represented by Maj-Gen. Enobong Udoh, the Chief Training and Operations officer, Nigerian Army Headquarters.

He noted that the Depot Nigerian Army had demonstrated through the outreach, its resolve to key into his directive for all Army formations, units and establishments to maintain a robust Civil-military relationship.

He commended the people for their continued and unrelenting support for the smooth conduct of all operations of the army in the state.

“I wish to particularly observe that since the beginning of our exercises in the general area of Falgore Forest, the security situation has drastically reduced, “he said.

He implored the people not to relent in offering assistance to the army by providing timely information on the activities of criminal elements in the community.

The army chief urged the beneficiaries to take their medications as prescribed by the doctors and ensure routine medical check-ups as a follow up to the exercise.

He further commended President Muhammad Buhari for his numerous support to the Nigerian Army to enable them deliver effectively on its constitutional mandates.

In his remarks, Ganduje commended the military for the gesture and also ridding the area of criminal activities.

Ganduje called on the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to present themselves for check-up and treatment, adding that such a gesture would make maximum impact on their lives.

Earlier, the commandant of the Depot Nigerian Army, Maj-Gen. Sani Mohammed said the gesture was also to assist the people of the community as part of the depot`s social responsibilities.

He said that they will not relent in their efforts towards initiating programmes that were beneficial to the communities in need.

NAN reports that the army is providing free services in medical consultation, random blood glucose test, blood pressure screening, antihelminthic (Deworming) for children.

Others are voluntary HIV counselling and test, dental consultations and treatment, distribution of mosquito nets for pregnant women, and also ophthalmic care.
