Archbishop raises alarm over occultism in church, politics

ARCHBISHOP of Kwara Province of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Olusegun Adeyemi, has raised the alarm over the influence of occultism in church and political circle in Nigeria.

Speaking at the commendation service for the late first military governor of Kwara State, Brigadier-General David Bamigboye, at St Barnabas Cathedral Church in Ilorin on Friday, Adeyemi regretted that many Christian leaders who know and are aware of this still engage in occultic activities.

The Archbishop, who said that occultism is a sin that would bar people from entering the kingdom of God, added that many clergymen were in secret cult and alleged that some of them “sleep with demons on the seaside to obtain power.”

He also said that in the political circle, occultism was also well embraced to the extent that many in the circle believe they have to belong to a secret cult before they could be successful.

He advised those in cult membership to quit without entertaining fear of a negative consequence, saying that he knew many people who had denounced without suffering for their decision.

The Archbishop, who also said that pride and unforgiving spirit constituted bar from the Kingdom of God, advised people to worship God without pride and to forgive one another.

Adeyemi commended service of Bamigboye to the State and advised that people should seek for forgiveness of the wrongs they committed while in service so that the wrongs do not stand against them on the judgement day.
