Appoint a substantive Auditor-general, Oyo assembly tasks Ajimobi

Published by

The Oyo House of Assembly has called on Governor Abiola Ajimobi to appoint a substantive Auditor-general for the state.

The state assembly at its plenary on Tuesday, presided over by its Speaker, Honourable Michael Adeyemo,  observed that the state had had Auditor-general in acting capacity for about two years which was beyond the constitutional period of 6 months for which an official could be in acting capacity.

Presenting the motion on behalf of co-members of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation, member representing Iseyin and Itesiwaju constituency, Honourable Afeez Adeleke expressed concern that failure to urgently appoint a substantive Auditor-general was also unhealthy for government’s perception.

The motion made reference to section 126(3) of the constitution which stipulated that the period of acting should not exceed six months otherwise there is a resolution of the state house of assembly.

Speaking further, Adeleke revealed that audited reports of the annual accounts of the State had not been submitted to the house of Assembly since 2013.

Noting that the failure to submit audited reports for three years contravened section 125(2) and (5), the assembly also noted the imperativeness for the auditor-general to submit the audited reports of the accounts of the state.
