AN applicant, Ibrahim Usman, was on Monday brought before a Grade 1 Area Court, sitting at Mpape in Abuja for allegedly stealing a handset.
Usman, who resides in Jabi Village in the FCT, Abuja is being tried for joint act and theft.
The Prosecutor, Mr Dominic Abba, told the court that the case was reported at the Utako Police Station by one Janet Okoh of Masaka Village in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

Abba told the court that on May 23, Usman dipped his hand into the complainant’s handbag and stole an Itel handset, valued at N14, 000.
He said that the defendant passed the handset to another person now at large, who ran away with the handset.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation all efforts to recover the handset proved abortive.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
Usman, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Abdullahi Ogedengbe, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Ogedengbe said that the surety must be reasonable and reliable and adjourned the case until June 17 for hearing.
