The police on Tuesday arraigned an applicant, Abidemi Aminu, over alleged illegal possession of firearms and membership of a secret cult.
Thirty-year-old Aminu, who resides at Ikorodu area of Lagos State, is facing charges of conspiracy, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, ASP Peter Nwangwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 6 at 9.00 a.m. at Gberigbe Ikorodu.
Nwangwu said that the police caught the defendant with one Baretta pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition which he could not give a satisfactory account of.
He alleged the defendant also belonged to a secret cult called “Eiye confraternity”.
Nwangwu said that the offences contravened Sections 42, 330 (d) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Aje-Afunwa said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Sept. 24 for mention.
