Apo 6: Court sentences 2 policemen to death, discharges 3

The Apo Six victims who got justice at last 12 years after.

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Thursday, sentenced two policemen to death for their roles in the killing of two of the six Apo traders on 8 June, 2005.
Six police officers, Danjuma Ibrahim; Othman Abdulsalami (now at large); Nicholas Zakaria; Ezekiel Acheneje; Baba Emmanuel and Sadiq Salami were alleged to have murdered the traders, who have since been described as ‘Apo Six.’
They were charged by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide of killing Ifeanyi Ozor; Chinedu Meniru; Isaac Ekene; Paulinus Ogbonna; Anthony Nwokedike and Augustina Arebun.
Sentencing the policemen, Emmanuel Baba and Ezekiel Acheneje, to death, the trial judge, Justice Ishaq Bello, who is the FCT Chief Judge, declared that his hands were tied under the law despite the allocutus of their counsel.
He, however, discharged and acquitted three others who stood trial for 11 years.
The second defendant in case, Othman Abdulsalami, is, however, at large.
