THE chairman of the Osun State chapter of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), Mr Wale Adebayo has expressed concern that the state government has not conducted local government elections in the state.
In a statement issued at the weekend in Osogbo, the state capital, the chairman of APM, Wale Adebayo, who doubles as the IPAC chairman.
Adebayo such election was critical because local government was the closest to the grassroots, where the majority of the people reside.
He said the 1999 Constitution does not give room for a caretaker committee to run the affairs at the local government level, as sole administrators are not elected representatives of the people.
The APM boss also expressed dismay that the authorities were yet to constitute statutory boards of government agencies and parastatals.
He urged the government to explain issues surrounding the ceding of the 60 per cent government share in Citi trust Holdings Plc (formerly Omoluabi Bank. Adebayo also implored the government to rejig the state wing of the South-West security outfit, Amotekun so as to make it more effective functional.
“They are performing relatively well in Oyo and nearby states. Ours should not be an exception,” Adebayo said.
While advising the government to prioritise the provision of infrastructure and social amenities to the citizens of the state, he noted that a lot ought to have been achieved since it came to power.
