APEN conference targets 2030 global classroom

All is set by the Association of Private School Educators in Nigeria (APEN) to hold this year’s edition of its annual conference.

The three- day event and 10th in the series has: “Global classroom 2030: Vehicle to attitudes, knowledge, skills and values,” as its theme. It would hold at the Honeywell Auditorium of Pan Atlantic University, Lekki, Lagos, beginning from Tuesday, October 29 and between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm daily.

The president of the association and founder, Oxbridge Tutorial College, Ikeja, Lagos, Dr Olufemi Ogunsanya, confirmed this to our correspondent, saying many high profile resource persons are billed as guest speakers at the event.

She listed Dr Sam Ikoku, a productivity consultant and best selling author and Sefi Atta, who is an award-winning author and playwright as part of them.

Others, she added, are Dr Adedayo Joseph, a clinical radiationist; Mr Paul Mundy- Castle, headteacher of Woodcote High School, United Kingdom; Mrs Foluso Gbadamosi, director of business process and technology, Prime Atlantic group, and Mrs Nimi Akinkugbe, who is the CEO, Bestman Games Ltd.

According to her, there will also be many high-level public functionaries in the education sector including the commissioners of education and heads of educational agencies from many states of the federation at the conference.

Ogunsanya, a former senior lecturer at the University of Lagos, Akoka, explained that the purpose of the annual conference is for APEN members and other educators to examine their operations and service delivery and to learn new things that would help them to do better as educators.

Education, according to her, is not only about imparting knowledge but about the holistic development of students.

“That is why our conference this year – with online registration still ongoing – is a way of preparing our members and other participants towards what idea classrooms should be 10 years to come,” she stressed. “This is because we always prepare ourselves for future needs and requirements.”

According to her, APEN members are leaders in private education sub-sector in the country and known for quality service and would continue to contribute meaningfully to the education and economic development of Nigeria and globally.
