APC’s Okpebholo congratulates Oba Ewuare ll on return of stolen artefacts

Published by

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the September 21, 2024 election in Edo, has congratulated the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare ll, on the return of 39 stolen artefacts from Sweden.

In a statement on Friday, Okpebholo recalled that the artefacts were taken 127 years ago by colonial plunderers.

He expressed excitement at the news but noted that he was not surprised, given Oba Ewuare ll’s efforts in redefining African cultural heritage as a diplomat and royal father.

Okpebholo criticised those who had undermined the Benin Monarchy’s value and hindered the return of the artefacts to their rightful place in the palace of the great Benin Kingdom.

He reassured Oba Ewuare ll and the traditional institution across the state that, if elected governor, his team would continue to work with the traditional institution, particularly the Palace of the Oba of Benin, to administer the state effectively.

He pledged to stay on the path of truth and support the Benin Monarchy to achieve collective gains for the people of Edo.

The return of the stolen artefacts marks a significant moment in the preservation of Benin’s cultural heritage, and Okpebholo’s congratulatory message highlights the importance of respecting and honoring the traditional institution in Edo.
