Gunmen suspected to armed bandits struck in the early hours Thursday and abducted the District Head of Gunna in Yakila, (names withheld) in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State alongside some children of two health workers allegedly working at a Primary Health Care facility in the area.
Also abducted by the hoodlums was a youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Garin Gabbas community within the same local government area whose names was yet unknown.
Confirming the incident, Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Mallam Ahmed Ibrahim Inga in an interview via the telephone in Minna, the state capital, added that the incident occurred at about 12:00am -1:25am in the affected communities when some residents were still fast asleep in their homes.
The NSEMA boss added that several members of the communities were still missing, thereby making it impossible to ascertain the actual number of other persons who might have been abducted by the fleeing bandits.
He however stated that his agency in collaboration with the security personnel and the local vigilante groups were still gathering intelligence on the attacks.
