The PDP spoke against the backdrop of the insecurity created in the state last Friday at the APC non elective congress, in which two persons was shot dead, while several others sustain fatal injuries at the party secretariat along the mbiama/yenagoa road.
The State Chairman of the PDP, Mr Cleopas Moses said the actors in the APC showed disregard to party discipline and conducted themselves in an un-democratic manner, little wonder the sacked party chairman, Tiwei Orunimighe’s loyalists clashed with those of acclaimed state leader of the APC, Chief Timipre Sylva.
It was shameful that in the open glare, and before media they told Nigerians that APC is an un-organized party, as they could not conduct a peaceful non elective congress in the state.
Addressing journalists on Monday after rising from an emergency Executive Committee meeting, Moses said the fight for supremacy between two warring factions of the APC led to the firing of arms and ammunition in the streets of Yenagoa.
He accused the opposition party of playing the politics of do-or-die, saying the development had brought an embarrassment to Bayelsa people and a threat to grassroots democracy.
He said, “The PDP is worried about the cases of violence which resulted in reported deaths and destruction of property of Bayelsans in the guise of politics.
”Extreme violence has become a recurring decimal in almost all APC activities in the state vis-a-vis APC 2015 governorship primary, APC 2017 non-Elective Congress and the inauguration of their Acting state Chairman on 18th August, 2017, all of which have been bloodletting.
“The development in disturbing as it raises concerns about what they may be planning for future elections even as they are no match for the PDP in this state.”
To this end, the State PDP Boss, reiterated called on the state Commissioner of Police and his sister security agencies never to relent in their efforts to ensure that the culprits of the last Friday killings were found and brought made to face the full weight of the laws.
