APC raises alarm over alleged plan to disrupt elections in Ondo coastal area

THE Director of Presidential Campaign Council of APC, Southwest zone, Chief Olusola Oke, on Thursday, alleged that some unscrupulous elements have hatched plans to disrupt the Presidential and National Assembly election in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas of Ondo State.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed on behalf of Oke by his Media Aide, Mr Rotimi Ogunleye, who said the party has uncovered a plot by some politicians from the coastal area to engage ex-militant to cause confusion at the poll during tomorrow’s election.

According to him, “the directorate learnt that the mastermind of this criminal act was reported to have summoned known armed militants from within and outside the two local government areas to a meeting at Okitipupa on Friday 15th February 2019, a day before the postponed election.

“It was reported that after parting with a huge sum of money, he instructed the militants to hijack and destroy election materials in the riverine areas, generally and specifically in Ilaje constituency 1 where the fear of the mastermind that his agenda against APC candidate, a specifically senatorial candidate of APC, may not sail through.

“It was learnt that while assuring the militants again at Okitipupa, he boasted that he has secured the understanding of the security agents to look another way while the militants carry out this heinous crime.”

Oke, however, called on the security agencies and the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state to beam their searchlight to the two local government areas during the election to ensure a free and fair election.

“The directorate hereby calls on the men and officers of the Forward Operation Base, Nigerian Army and Nigerian Police to beam their searchlight on Ondo state, Ilaje, in particular, to prevent these agents of destabilisation from implementing their devilish plans. The directorate also calls on INEC to be on guard.

“While the directorate assures the public of the commitment of President Buhari to a free and fair election, the directorate wants to sound a note of warning that the arm of the law is long enough to bring any perpetrator of violence and criminal practice during and after the election to law.”
