National chairman, All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun
Despite his postponement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, there is no respite yet for the national chairman of the ruling party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, as those calling for his removal have not given up on their plot.
However, to address issues, the APC national chairman, Odigie-Oyegun, has fixed a meeting for today (Wednesday) with governors on the party platform. The governors will be led to the meeting by Chief Rochas Okorocha, who is the chairman of All Progressives Governors Forum (APGF).
Nigerian Tribune gathered that one of the aggrieved groups, Forum of Non-National Working Committee (NWC), had written another letter to President Muhammadu Buhari demanding for a meeting to enable them ventilate their grievances.
Nigerian Tribune findings revealed that in an earlier letter, dated April 6, and entitled: “Save our party-APC”, the forum demanded that a NEC meeting be urgently convened to save the ruling party from “preventable, avoidable and unnecessary intra-party cracks that the present situation might generate.”
“We are equally displeased with the ways of handling party matters solely by the National Working Committee without any recourse to the NEC from which NWC derived her powers.
“Also to be noted for appropriate advice is the exclusion of sizeable number of federating states from scheme of things within the party because many states are not presently represented by party officers on the current NWC, hence, the need to be having regular NEC meetings pending the much awaited amendment to the present party constitution.’’
But in a reminder dated April 24, signed by Honourable Omolayo O. Akintola and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, they pleaded with the president on the need to react to their first letter.
Nigerian Tribune further gathered that members of the forum met on Tuesday morning at an undisclosed hotel in Abuja, where they restated their resolve to join forces with those plotting to remove Chief Odigie-Oyegun as national chairman of the ruling party.
Further findings revealed that in his move to placate those plotting his removal, Chief Odigie-Oyegun and certain members of his national working committee held a closed-door meeting on Tuesday with forum of state chairmen, where he pleaded with them not to join forces with those agitating for his removal.
Besides the national caucus, the governors are equally scheming to unseat the former Edo State governor.
Addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting with the party chairmen, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed today’s scheduled meeting with the governors.
He disclosed that the meeting was important to enable the national working committee plan with them ahead the NEC meeting.
“The NEC meeting was postponed because many of the governors weren’t around, but we are happy that they are now in the country,’’ he said.
He declined comments on the letter written to the presidency by the forum of Non-National Working Committee (NWC) members, as he dismissed the forum as non-existent and not recognised by the party’s constitution.
