MEMBERS of the All Progressives Congress, United States chapter, on Wednesday, declared that the party’s governorship candidate of the party, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, remained the only candidate capable of restoring the glory of Ondo State.
In a statement issued on next week’s poll in the state, they specifically urged voters to reject the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by voting massively for Akeredolu.
The statement was signed by the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party in US, Mr Dele Alade, who is a US-based attorney and the national publicity secretary of APC in US, Professor Francis Onukwuli.
“Mr Akeredolu is an accomplished lawyer of high integrity, an ardent progressive, who will not short-change the people of the state. He is the only candidate left in the race that will fight against corruption and will implement the programmes of APC to bring rapid developments to the state.
We are committed to making the expertise of our members available to our party and APC governments at all levels in furtherance of our patriotic duty to the country. We call on Nigerians to support the party, as it is the only progressive political party in the country that has the roadmap and path to Nigeria’s greatness,” they stated.
While calling for unity in APC towards achieving victory at the poll, the leaders said voters should “shun AD and PDP so as not to mortgage their lives and the future of their children, because apart from lacking progressive tendencies, those parties can only set the state back as they have no good intentions for the people.”
It added: “APC-USA will do everything possible to support Mr Akeredolu and ensure his victory. We will deploy our resources to monitor the election and expose to the whole world any acts of rigging or thuggery. We call on Nigerians, especially the people of the state to come out in large numbers to support and vote for Akeredolu. We cannot afford to allow anti-people and anti-democratic to take over power in Ondo State.”
The party asked the people to be vigilant and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) “not to succumb to any undue influence or intimidation or calls by some elements to postpone the election.
“INEC should not make it a habit of postponing elections as it makes the INEC, the Federal Government and the whole country look unserious, unstable and insecure.”
