APC members call for cancellation of LG congresses in Ogun

Published by

SOME members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, on Wednesday, called for the cancellation of local government congresses held in the 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas, last Saturday.

The party members from the three senatorial districts urged the National Executive Committee (NEC) to declare it null and void.

The aggrieved members carried placards with inscriptions such as “APC is not a family affair”,” APC is for all. Stop discrimination”, “No more harassment in our party”, “Nobody can chase us out of our party” among others, to press home their demands.

Addressing newsmen was the Ogun Central Senatorial Chairman, Honourable Kunle Adesina, who agreed with the protesters that the party Constitution and guidelines were not followed in the conduct of the congresses.

He alleged that names of party officers and delegates were removed by the Acting Chairman of the party, Alhaji Lemboye which according to him contradicted Article 21D (VI) of the party Constitution.

He said further that eligible party officers were prevented from participating in the congresses.

“We were caught unaware. We got to know about the Congresses through the state owned television station. As law abiding party citizens, we consulted our party chieftains as experienced players in the game of politics, we told our people in the various local governments not to fight anyone. We know that if they attended, there might be problem. Those that went were turned back.

“The Constitution of the party is clear. We will take up all necessary steps to get justice. We therefore urge the National Executive Committee of pur great party APC to set aside the outcome of the stage managed Congress and declare it as null and void and of no consequence,” he added.

Similarly speaking, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Honourable Tunji Egbetokun, said injustice in any form would not be condoned as far as the party is concerned in the state.

Egbetokun said, “We have a strong believe in the national body of the party to get justice on this matter. We are peace loving members of the party. Nobody can divide the party we want progress.
