THE All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has said it will participate in the local government election slated for December in the state.
This is a marked departure from the party’s boycott of the election when it held two years ago when the current executive in the councils were elected.
A statement by the Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, said the party arrived at the decision to take part in the election, on Monday.
Olatunbosun said, “the state executive meeting today (Monday) resolved to participate in the proposed local government election.”
The party said: “We call all members of our party, particularly those interested in the chairmanship or councillorship position in local governments and wards to indicate their interest.
“We advise the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) to be fair and transparent in dealing with all registered political parties which will be participating in the election.
“PDP-led govt has failed Ekiti People and therefore our party will not sit back while the people suffer.”
The APC had stayed off the last election in 2015 after it failed to get a favourable injunction in its suit challenging the composition of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC).
Clarifying the current position of his party, Chief Olatunbosun said the APC was a law-abiding party and would take necessary legal steps if the EKSIEC was found to be going against the laws guiding elections in the country.
