APC Convention: I am not aware of CPC, ACN power blocs ― Senator Musa

Senator representing Niger East and aspirant for the office of national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Senator Sani Musa has said no power bloc exists within the All Progressives Congress.

Amidst speculation that a certain chieftain of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change,(CPC) is the anointed choice of the Presidency for the office ahead of the national convention tentatively fixed for next February, Senator Musa said the ruling party is one united political family with no legacy parties.

Saturday Tribune checks revealed the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressives Change, All Nigerian People’s Party,( ANPP) certain chieftains of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and the People’s Democratic Party, came together to form the APC as the main opposition party before 2015 general elections.

Further investigation revealed that the defunct ACN and ANPP had since produced national Chairmen for the APC in the person of Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Odigie Oyegun and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

But speaking with newsmen on Friday, Senator Musa maintained that the defunct parties had ceased to exist. He denied knowledge of the plan to impose a candidate from the defunct CPC.

He said:” I am not aware of any legacy parties, what I know is only one legacy and that’s is the one driven by President Muhammadu Buhari and we need to improve on that. He is giving us security, infrastructural development is ongoing and we must improve on his achievements since governance is a continuum.
APC is for all of us, not divided into you and us. ”

The aspirant from the North Central geo-political zone also told newsmen that there was no conflict of interest in the zone over the choice between the office of the national chairman and the 2023 Presidency.

While he acknowledged that Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello had declared interest in the party presidential ticket, Senator Musa said the aspiration of Chieftains from the zone would be guided by the zoning arrangement unveiled by the APC stakeholders.

Senator Musa described himself as the leading aspirant for the exalted office of national chairman.

“Having played a part in building our party at all levels since 2014, I am confident that I am the best candidate to lead the party to achieve our desired objectives. My ambition is borne out of my desire to contribute positively to the nation’s growing democratic process by ensuring that we build strong political structures with the required capacity to address the challenges we face as a party and ultimately as a nation.

“While there is no gainsaying the fact that our party, the All Progressives Congress, has endured its fair share of challenges especially in the areas of internal polarization and fair play, the process of rebuilding and repositioning the party requires visionary and just leadership.

Besides, the problems that have plagued us recently, and the problems that usually plague societies at any given time, have not been ones stemming from situations where leaders have made tough moral choices when faced with difficult, shades-of-grey options. Our problems recently have been that our party leaders have knowingly abandoned even the most basic morality when pursuing personal gain. Most moral leadership problems do not arise from misjudging complicated ethical issues. Most arise from something much simpler: wanton disregard of common decency in pursuit of naked self-interest.

If given the opportunity to lead the party I will completely re-engineer the internal structures and workings of the party and make it adaptive to the yearnings and aspirations of members and Nigerians. I will be adaptive to participatory and affiliative work styles that will usher visionary and pacesetting leadership that will transform the party into a democratic institution that Nigerians will proudly continue to embrace. If we hope to maintain credibility over time, then we must adhere faithfully to the same organizational expectations that our context asks of our teams, for my words are my bonds.

Though an onerous task, given my political clout, extensive experience and sphere of influence, I have no doubt that if given the opportunity, the APC will expand its sphere of influence beyond all fault lines and cover the length and breadth of our great country.”
