APC Chieftain urges Atiku, Obi to cooperate after Supreme Court verdict

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji (Dr) Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso has called on the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, and his counterpart, Mr Peter Obi, the flagbearer of the Labour Party (LP), that since they have failed to overturn the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Supreme Court, they should forget personal ego and cooperate and be ready to provide constructive criticism that will enhance the development of the country.

This is just as he gave kudos to the Supreme Court for discharging its constitutional duty, refusing to be intimidated by propaganda, and upholding that President Tinubu was constitutionally elected.

His words were, ‘Now that they have exercised their constitutional right by bringing their displeasure before the Supreme Court and failed, they should cooperate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to move the country forward.’

Kwankwaso, who disclosed this in an interview in Kano, said, ‘Nobody should blame the two important personalities, Alhaji Atiku and Mr Obi, for challenging the outcome of the presidential election at both the tribunal and the Supreme Court. According to him, it is normal in life for an individual to seek clarification on any aspects that are not clear to him. Adding to that, these are the reasons that prompted both Alhaji Atiku and Mr Obi to approach the Supreme Court for a final judgement.

He therefore disclosed that now that the apex court has ruled that 25 percent of the FCT does not require winning the Presidential election, the apex court has also ruled that INEC’s failure to electronically transmit the result of the 2023 presidential election to iRev did not affect the result of the election won by Bola Tinubu. And coupled with Justice Inyang’s pronouncement that ‘The iRev portal is not a collation system… Where the iRev portal fails, it does not stop the collation of results.’

Kwankwaso noted that after the ruling of the Presidential Election Tribunal in favour of President Tinubu, he had advised both Alhaji Atiku and Mr Obi to accept the verdicts and shelve any plans to take the matter to the Supreme Court. ‘My candid advice then was that, given the evidence that the tribunal judged the case upon, it was evident that they did not have any strong points to overturn the decision at the Supreme Court.’

Kwankwaso, therefore, added that he is convinced that both Alhaji Atiku and Mr Obi believe in the rule of law, and now that the apex court has dismissed their various pieces of evidence, the next action is for them to wait for the next election in 2027 to try their luck. But until that time, Nigerians have the belief that both have a wealth of experience, and they should not allow such valuable experience to go to waste. Hence, there is a need for them to rally around Mr President (Tinubu) in his quest to move the country to greater heights.

He, however, commended the national chairman of APC, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for the way he has been steering the ship of the party since assuming office.

Now that the party has finally secured victory at the Supreme Court, every member of the party is praying that, in a short period, the APC will also win in court the Kano state governorship tussle. ‘We are convinced, Insha Allah, that the APC members in Kano will achieve victory over the challenge of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) regarding the tribunal’s removal of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.’

Also, the teeming masses in Kura, Madobi, and Garun-Malam are equally praying to Almighty Allah to let him (Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso) secure a final victory at the appeal court against the APC member who dragged him to court.

He then gave kudos to the Supreme Court for discharging its constitutional duties, refusing to be intimidated by propaganda, and upholding that President Tinubu was constitutionally elected.”
