APC chieftain, Nwosu, calls for peaceful resolution of labour disputes in Imo

Published by

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nwosu has called for a peaceful resolution of labour disputes as he expressed concern over the plight of the citizenry as a result of the industrial action.

Speaking to reporters in Abuja, he described the situation as unfortunate and the decision to cut the electricity supply has devastating effects on the downtrodden in the state.

Nwosu, therefore, called on the organised labour to call off the strike action in the interest of the people of the state, as he faulted the notions held in certain quarters that the state has been grounded completely.

“The best way is the resolve the crises amicably. Labour should return to the round table because they have to look at the plight of the ordinary masses in the state. Most of them rely on electricity to remain business.

“You don’t expect the woman who is into hairdressing or selling ice fish to run her business on generators. The same applies to our youths who rely on electricity to run their barbing salons. This strike is affecting our people and that is not in the interest of the same people they are supposed to protect their interests.”

Nwosu who aspired for the governorship of Imo state in the 2019 general election assured that Governor Hope Uzodinma would sweep the poll notwithstanding the strike action by the organised labour.

He also faulted the notions held in certain quarters that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not in support of the second-term aspiration of Governor Uzodinma.

“People can afford to say whatever they like. President Tinubu is a committed APC leader and would do anything possible to support the candidate of his party. He is very much with our governor whatever anybody would say whether he is from north east, north west or anywhere in the country.”

On the coming guber election on Saturday, Nwosu assured that elections would hold as scheduled in view of the fact that the citizenry still moves around to carry out their daily endeavours without let or hindrances.

He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free and fair poll, as he added that “INEC will give victory to whoever wins it.”

He also spoke on the continued incarceration of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kalu.

“Every Igbo man from the Southeast wants to see Nnamdi Kalu in detention so that we will have peace in the Southeast. Every Igbo man has been calling for his release.”

He further called on the people of Imo to troop en masse, and to exercise their rights on Saturday, saying that only Imolites can decide who will govern them, not outsiders.
