APC Chieftain faults Peter Obi’s comments on Cross River governorship race

Published by

Twenty-four hours after the declaration of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Bassey Otu as the winner of the governorship elections in Cross River state, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi’s comments about the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sandy Onor, has been dismissed and described as speaking in Ignorance and innocence.

The description was given by High Chief Higgins Peters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Cross River state while reacting to the failure of Senator Sandy Onor to win the governorship elections in Cross River State.

Chief Higgins, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Opal Group of Companies, said that Mr Peter Obi’s comments should be disregarded because Obi doesn’t know the dynamics and sentiments of Cross River state Politics.

“Like I said , Peter Obi’s endorsed, if he did, because  I have not listened to it, if he did should be taken for granted, because he my have spoken out of ignorance, or innocence, because he doesn’t know the dynamics and sentiments in my people in Cross River state.

“The truth about the matter is that, I don’t need any inspiration or being a prophet to know, the dynamics of politics in my state. And in that direction, I don’t think that Peter Obi knew the Politics or dynamics of the politics of my state better than I do,” Higgins Said.

Further, speaking on Sandy Onor’s scorecard in the elections, Chief Higgins Peters said he was surprised that the PDP candidate could score up to a 100, 000 plus votes.

“I was very definite because Sandy Onor was swimming against the tide; I was so surprised that he had more than 100,000 plus votes, I will rather congratulate him for that effort because I didn’t know that Sandy was going to have even up to 20,000 votes, because of the sentiments in the State.

“The reason is because we have a seamless transition of rotation from south Central North and back to South again. But somebody from the central jumped in and he is going to run, so I was thinking that my people knowing that it was not equitable  for somebody from the central to run, were not going to give the him the volume of votes they gave to him. “

Recall that Mr Peter Obi had on March 13, 2023, while on a live interview on Arise News, commented briefly on the candidacy of the Cross River Governorship candidate, naming Sandy Onor as “an excellent candidate,” a comment that was largely misconstrued to be an endorsement, even when it was obvious that Peter Obi didn’t endorse Sandy Onor.

However, 24 hours after Sandy Onor was defeated by Bassey Otu of the APC in the governorship contest, Chief Higgins Peters has come out to comment on the purported endorsement.
