APC chieftain calls for promotion of culture, tradition among the Igbos

An APC chieftain in Imo State, Nze Ray Emeana has stated the need for the promotion of culture and tradition among the Igbos

Speaking at the 2024 annual ‘Onwa Oru’ festival of Uratta clan, the Chairman of the occasion and the former State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, described the festival as a rebirth of Uratta clan

He said that for the purpose of unity in the land, there is every need for all Igbos to go back home and promote their culture and tradition as a way to develop their areas.

While he completely dismissed insinuations that culture and traditions are fetish, the former lawmaker recalled that even the Europeans and Americans amongst others celebrate their culture and traditions with every amount of seriousness.

He said: that the 2024 Onwa Oru’ is the first time where the 10 Communities were represented in the festival” and there is no festival that is bigger than others”.

The Director General Ahiajoku Convention Centre reminded the people of Uratta that no person can be more stronger than Uratha clan unless the community decided to go behind.

He commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for renovating some of their roads linking various communities and other adjoining communities.

Those affected roads renovated according to him include Toronto Road to Orji and Toronto to Road Safety Road amongst others.

In his welcome speech during the event, the National President General NPG of Uratta Development Association (UDA), Chief Stanley Ukaga described it as the first time in several decades that all the autonomous communities led by their traditional rulers, the President Generals and other representatives of the 10 communities have assembled to celebrate ‘Onwa Oru’ festival.

He expressed joy that the ceremony coupled with the radiating peace and unity in the communities are happening under his administration having worked hard since the assumption of of office to bring back transformation in the land.

Ukaga re-instated the commitment of his administration to tackle insecurity in the entire communities of Uratta clan including infrastructural developments in the area.

He said: “We are already looking into some of our abandoned projects such as the customary court, and the civic centre, amongst others and soon renovation work will start”.

The NPG equally paid special tribute to the Governor of Imo State for the kind of developmental strides taken in Uratta communities in the areas of road development expressing hope that during his second tenure, he would do more for the communities.

In his words, the traditional ruler of Akwakuma autonomous community in Owerri North council area, HRH Eze David Nnawuihe Onuegwunwoke expressed a successful festival despite all odds.

He advised the people of Uratta clan to continue to maintain peace and unity in the course of their daily activities.
