Many former caretaker chairmen of Local Governments in Oyo State would not be returned when the Oyo state House of Assembly discloses another set of chairmen and councillors for the recently created local council development areas, next week.
In the list forwarded to the Oyo House of Assembly by Governor Abiola Ajimobi, some two-time Chairmen that include Wasiu Olatunbosun, Ibadan (NorthWest); Opeyemi Salami (Akinyele); Idris Nojeemdeen Abass, (Ibadan South East); Yekeen Popoola, (Irepo); Saheed Alaran, Iseyin; (Orelope), Kolawole, Oluyole are set to miss out on the new appointment.
Ajimobi was said to have dropped the perceived loyalists for a new set of persons to allow for spread of the appointments to party members across all local government areas in the state.
Owing to the suit challenging the creation of 35 local council development areas by the state government, it was gathered that chairmen and councilors will not be appointed for the Oyo East, Oyo West, Afijio, Atiba and Oriire local government areas and its local council development areas.
In the list which contains a large number of new appointees, it was gathered that the former Chairmen for Atisbo, Oorelope, Itesiwaju, Kajola, Olorunsogo, Iwajowa, Saki East and Saki West were returned.
The need to reappoint caretaker chairmen, according to Governor Ajimobi, is to fill the void at the local government level since January following the court injunction instituted by some Baales in Oyo town which stalled the local government election earlier scheduled for February.
Meanwhile, a son of a former governor of Oyo state, Chief Adebayo Alao Akala is expected to be appointed in Ogbomoso zone.
Though there were pointers to the fact that the list of new appointees will be reeled out on the floor of the state House of Assembly on Thursday, it was gathered that the announcement was postponed till next week to further calm frayed nerves over the list.
It was further gathered that preferences in the appointment of Chairmen and councilors were given to those persons who had declared intention to contest in the forthcoming local government election.
Also, there are agitations of some party loyalists which have to do with the fact that they were not consulted before the governor selected the appointees.
The state government has expressed the desire to opt for out-of-court settlement to resolve the impasse and enable the conduct of local government election.
The newly appointed chairmen and councilors are expected to hold sway and strategically position the All Progressives Congress (APC) for success in the expected local government election.
