Bandits stormed a mosque at Sabon Layi, Kakangi Ward, in Birnin-Gwari local government of Kaduna State on Tuesday, killing an imam and one worshipper, while two others sustained serious injuries.

In a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday by the chairman of the Birnin Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, the terrorists stormed the mosque located in the Ga Allah Babba area of the Sabon Layi agrarian community and opened fire on the worshippers.

At the end of the shooting, the Imam of the mosque, Malam Mamuda, and a worshipper known as Kabir were killed.

It was also gathered that Bilya Mairabo and Ashiru Mairabo sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Jibrin Maigwari General Hospital, Birnin-Gwari, for medical attention.

The atmosphere has thrown the community into panic, as most of the villagers have now fled to nearby villages for safety.

Sources further declared that, almost on a daily basis, terrorists storm our communities, killing and abducting innocent citizens.

“The situation is more worrisome on the Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna highway and has become a nightmare for travellers.

Recall that the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, had directed the local government chairmen to be proactive in dealing with security breaches in their local domains.

Similarly, the governor had directed the deployment of the 7,000 vigilantes recruited by the state government to the 23 local government areas of the state.

As of the time of filling out the report, there was no reaction from the police or the government.
