A prominent Islamic organisation in Nigeria, Ansar-Ud-Deen Society, has reaffirmed commitment to upholding the values and principles of Islam for continued positive impacts on the global community.
The National President, Dr Rafiu Sanni, made the pledge on Sunday at an event where he announced activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the organisation.
Ansar-Ud-Deen Society was founded on December 21, 1923 for the purpose of the educational development of Muslims and also as a body to enhance the moral and social development of the Muslim community in Nigeria.
The anniversary with the theme ’100 years of Service: Re-engineering Ansar-Ud-Seen Society for the Next Century’, Sanni disclosed, will be celebrated in Nigeria, Benin Republic, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
He said: “I am delighted to announce the programmes for the forthcoming centenary ceremony marking the hundred years of existence and exceptional contributions to the social and educational development of Nigerians and Muslims in particular with special emphasis on community service and adherence to the principles and values of Islam.
“The event will be a remarkable showcase of the Society’s achievements and a testament to the lasting impact it has had on communities across the globe.”
The Chairman, Centenary Planning Committee, Air Vice Marshal Sikiru Smith (retd), disclosed that the centenary celebration will run from September to December, 2023.
He added: “There are some programmes that will be held from the council to the state level. In addition to this, there are programmes to be organised by states of the federation. There are about eight states, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and northern states put together. Dates have been allocated to each of these states.
“The line-up of events includes youth summit, inter-school essay competition, football competition, Qur’an competition, new logo design competition, Summit University convocation ceremony, Women’s Health Day, national lecture, award ceremony, founding fathers’ dinner, centenary legacy projects across the globe, the global secretariat ground-breaking event and thanksgiving Juma’at service.”
