IN another round of raid by Oyo Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, 10 persons were arrested, in Ibadan, on Thursday, for street trading, assaulting environmental officers on enforcement duties.
It would be recalled that 20 persons were arrested on Tuesday for similar offences.
The arrested persons who were arraigned before an environmental tribunal in case file ME/WR/01/2017 were found guilty of flouting sanitation and waste management regulations and handed penalties to include one month imprisonment or pay N5000 fine each and N7500 for the release of seized goods.
The names of the tried for street trading were; Anita Lateef, Olaiya Usman, Sakariya Abdullahi, Rauadon Tairu, Yusuff Adamu, Bashiru Mustapha and Ishau Sheu.
Aminat Oloyede, Akeem Alade and Anthony Sunday were charged for assaulting the enforcement team.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Isaac Ishola, affirmed that the fines were in line with the state environmental sanitation and waste management laws.
Noting that the enforcement was bound to be sustained, he appealed to the traders and members of the public to comply and support government’s policy in ensuring a clean and conducive Oyo state.
