Anglican Church laments worsening insecurity, demands proactive measures

Church of Nigeria, (Anglican Communion), has lamented the general state of insecurity, especially the dangers posed to Christians and other citizens by the Boko Haram herdsmen, and kidnappers across the country.

It called on the federal and state governments to take immediate and decisive actions to safeguard the lives and property of innocent citizen’s.

This was contained in a 10 point communiqué issued at the end of the third session of the 18th Synod of the Diocese of Benin, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) with the theme, ‘Occupy till I come’ held at St. Matthew Cathedral, Benin City from July 4th – 8th, 2018.

The communiqué was jointly signed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Imasuen, Bishop of Benin Diocese; Venerable Osaro U. Igbinosa, synod secretary; and Hon. Justice Samson O. Uwaifo, diocesan chancellor.

The communique read: “The Synod is unanimously commending the Bishop and his wife for sustaining the very visible development in the Diocese, and promises to continue to encourage the fruitful efforts especially in the establishment and registration of the St. Peter’s Herbal Clinic, as well as dedication of the new Diocesan secretariat by the Primate, Most Rev. Nicholas D. Okoh.

“The Synod calls on the federal government to ensure safety in the country and to enable those in the Internally Displaces Persons camp (IDPs) to return to their states.

“It calls for supports for all efforts aimed at securing the release of kidnapped or abducted victims in particular, Miss Leah Sharibu, alleged to have been abducted in the Dapchi saga.

 

“Synod commends Governor Godwin Obaseki and Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolor, Ewuare II, for their synergy in ensuring the relative piece and security being enjoyed in the state. “Lauding in particular, the disbandment of Community Development Associations (CDAs), and their joint efforts in combating the menace of human trafficking; the two evils that had bedeviled the state.”
