The synod of the Diocese of Ijesa North, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has condemned the spate of insecurity in the country, most especially the rising cases of kidnapping, robbery, murder and sundry crimes.
Speaking in a communiqué issued at the end of its third session of the second synod, at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Iwoye-Ijesha, Osun State, the church charged the Federal Government to rise to the situation and create an enabling environment in the country.
In the communiqué signed by the Diocesan Bishop, Right Reverend Isaac I. Oluyamo and Diocesan Registrar, Adeleke O. Agboola, the synod also charged governments “to resuscitate and revitalise our industrial base to provide employment for our teeming youths who are jobless.”
While identifying with President Muhammadu Buhari “on his current illness,” the synod prayed for “God’s divine intervention for complete healing.”
On developments in Osun State, the synod commended the government for “its massive investment on road network” in urban areas and building of “mega schools and beautification of Osogbo,” and urged the government to “pay full salaries of workers and pensioners to rescue them from penury.”
Reaffirming its commitment to evangelism, with focus on “preparing all its parishioners for the second coming of Jesus Christ,” the synod congratulated the Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on his election and urged him to put God first in his dealings.
