Bishop AkinfenwaThe Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has charged the newly consecrated bishops of the church on ensuring that they prioritised their roles as apostles of God.

Anglican Primate, Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, gave the charge at the consecration service held at the Cathedral of St. James The Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

He urged the new bishops not to betray the trust reposed in them, adding that as ardent apostles of God, they were expected to proclaim Christ’s resurrection and interpret the gospel.

Okoh also charged them to guard the faith, unity and discipline of the church, and urged them to be faithful to their calling as clerics and demonstrate leadership examples to the entire flock of Christ.

“Your heritage is the faith of the patriarch, prophets, apostles and martyrs and those of every generation who have looked to God in hope,” Okoh said.

Those consecrated were Bishop Emmanuel Morris, Bishop Emmanuel Adekola, Bishop Stephen Fagbemi and Bishop Emmanuel Onsachi for Maiduguri, Igbomina, Owo and Okene Dioceses, respectively.

In a sermon, Bishop of Ilesha Diocese, Right Reverend Olubayo Sowale, enjoined the bishops to exhibit vibrant and transparent leadership qualities capable of bringing unity to Christendom and set viable goals for their respective dioceses. Sowale also told them to guard against being liabilities to their diocese

He also called for prayers for the nation to overcome its challenges.
