Anglican Bishop calls for perpetrators of insurgency to be prosecuted

Published by

THE bishop of the Saint Matthew’s Anglican Church, Diocese of Offa, Ikotun-Ile in the Oyun local government area of Kwara State, Right Reverend (Dr) Solomon Akanbi, has urged the Federal Government to prosecute all those responsible for insurgency and kidnapping in Nigeria.

During his address at the six-day ninth Synod of the diocese, the cleric expressed concern about the lack of significant action taken despite investigations into combating kidnapping, banditry, and other social ills.

Bishop Akanbi also criticised the political elites for not doing enough to alleviate poverty, unemployment, and other challenges facing the citizens. He condemned the practice of delegates accepting money from political office seekers and accused some clergymen and women of receiving money from politicians and political office seekers.

The Bishop also highlighted the importance of passing down the faith to future generations through hearing the word of God and obeying it, which was the theme of the synod.

Additionally, as part of the message to mark the 25th anniversary of the diocese, Bishop Akanbi called on members to be more committed to serving God through their resources and talents within the diocese.

The synod, themed “Faith of our Father, keep the faith,” was attended by religious, traditional, and political leaders, as well as congregations from all the churches within the diocese and Mrs Christianah Kehinde Akanbi, the Iya Bishop.

The programmme included a three-day revival service with various spiritual sessions and concluded with a thanksgiving service.
