ANAN Oyo 1 branch inaugurates exco, as Esanju emerges as 5th chairman

The Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN), Oyo State 1 branch, has inaugurated a new set of executive to run the affairs of the association for the next two.

The election and inauguration of the new officers which took place during the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the association was held on August 30 at the Accountant General’s Office Conference Room, Oyo State Secretariat, Ibadan.

At the end of the election, Dr Samuel O. Esanju emerged as new chairman; Mr Malik A. Abul Azeez, vice chairman; Mr Adetunji  M. Salau, general secretary; Mrs Oluwabunmi A. Adeyanju, assistant secretary; Mrs Ruth M. Ijaseun, treasurer; Mrs Sekinat B. Ojulaanro, financial secretary; Mr Adeolu Adejinmi, PRO/social secretary; Prof. Oyelakin L. Awobode, ex-officio1 and Mrs Kofoworola O. Adekanmbi, as ex-officio II.

In his address at the AGM, the outgone chairman Professor Oyelakin Awobode, who charted the course of the association consecutively for two terms, from 2019-2013 stated that his team took the baton of leadership with the readiness and willingness to serve and put the association in the state at the forefront and make it as a whole a premium brand of choice, until the emergence of Covid-19 which somewhat slow down the pace.

Recounting some of the key achievements of his team in office, he said apart from giving a helping hand by donating nose masks to Oyo State government through the Ministry of Health and Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), strategies were also put in place to help members of the association, by initiating an online meeting and lectures to assist them on their jobs during the pandemic period.

He also noted that during his tenure there was a revalidation exercise to arouse members’ commitment, hosting of MCPD which was adjudged to be the best in terms of logistics, planning and execution, among other corporate social responsibility-based programmes.

He added that part of the milestone achievements of his tenure was the successful creation of the state’s second branch known as ‘ANAN, Oyo 2 Branch’ in November 2022 at Oyo town to serve members from Ogbomoso, Oyo, and Oke Ogun axis, as well as the getting a betting office to serve as the association’s secretariat.

He expressed his joy over the successful completion of his two terms in office and emergence of new leaders, saying “a leader without a successor is a failure, but I am happy that those who have taken the baton from us are tested and trusted hands who will take the association to a greater height.”

He advised the new executives to put in their best by improving and building what his team had started, so that they can also have a record of performance that could beat what had done in office, imploring the members to give them their maximum support.

He thanked members of the association for their unalloyed support and contributions in making sure that his team had a successful tenure and happy ending.

The chairman of branches and benevolence committee of ANAN, Dr Tonye Apiri who represented the national president/chairman, governing council of the association, Dr James E. Neminebor, and also conducted the election of the new executive expressed his delight at the level of development in the branch.

He tasked members of the association not to rest on their oars in raising their bar of professionalism by acquiring more skills and going for training that could prepare them for the future as well as to leverage on their certificates as professional accountants to make more money.

He encouraged the members to give their full support to the new executive by attending meetings regularly, giving their full participation; be there to criticise them when they are making mistakes and celebrate their achievements.

 He congratulated the new leaders for scaling through the electioneering processes and emerging as the new set of leaders to take association to the next level, charging them not to disappoint the trust repose in them by the members and to explore new ways of doing things even at the monthly meetings.

Responding, the fifth chairman of ANAN, Oyo I Branch, Dr Samuel Esanju, thanked members of the association for the trust and faith bestowed on him to chart a new course for the association in the next two years.

He promised to build on the good works of the outgoing executive and to also come up with additional developmental projects with wider future contents such as commencement of the branch ventures in earnest, mobilisation of docile members through redesigned value chain programmes, creation of an elder forum to serve as the advisory arm of the association, among others.

Giving the vote of thanks, the chairman of the AGM committee, ANAN Oyo1 branch, Mr Ambaliyu O. Tijani appreciated the national presence at the AGM and the branches and benevolence committee for ensuring a free and fair election, as well as both the outgoing and incoming executive for their contributions toward the uplift of the association and the members for support.
