Anambra workers commend Buhari, NASS, over 30,000 Minimum wage

THE Anambra state workers on Thursday commend the National Assembly for the speedy passage of the 30,000 New National Minimum wage (2019) Amendment Bill and also President Mohammadu Buhari for assenting to it.

The commendation was made by the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, Comrade Jerry Nnubia, during the Union quadrennial conference was the state chairman was re-elected for another four years in the office alongside other executives where they were elected unopposed at the NULGE house Awka, the state capital of Anambra.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the reelection of comrade Nnubia was unanimously agreed by all delegates present with the vow that the outgoing Chairman, Comrade Jerry Nnubia should be re-elected to steer the affairs of the union for another four years.

The over 60 members represented by their delegates and affiliates said Nnubia has transformed the labour body from being a spectator to an investor in Anambra State economy through quality leadership.

Among his achievements, according to him, in the last four years are the cordial relationship between the State Government and the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, the successful protest against increase in pump price of petroleum products, Hike in electricity tariff and use of estimated billing by Discos and the current New National Minimum wage.

The chairman called on the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC), to immediately issue out the implementation table/circular to enable governor Willie Obiano who has already firmly promised to pay the new minimum wage, implement it for the workers of Anambra state.

Alongside the State chairman, Comrade Nnubia, who also doubles as the State Chairman of the NULGE Anambra State Chapter, other officers elected was Comr. Ifeanyi Ofodile (NUT) Vice Chairman, Comr. Paul Uwaeze Auditor, among others.

The state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, represented by his deputy Dr. Nkem Okeke on his part while declaring the event open thanked the Union for their corporate understand with the state government, urging them to continue to support the effort of the current administration for the interest of all.

The representative of Comrade Ayuba Wabba, the National President NLC, Comrade Chris Ani, who witness the exercise, also applaud Governor Obiano for his firm promise of being the first to pay the 30,000 new minimum wages if fully in operation.

One of the newly elected executive, Comrade Ifeanyi Ofodile who is presently the state chairman of Nigeria Union Teachers while speaking to journalists shortly after the election, called on the state governor to include NUT ex- officio to state government board to enable them contributes and be closer to the government which is applicable to other States of the Federation. He equally called on the state governor to employed more teachers in all the public schools across the state.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Jerry Nnubia thanks the TUC counterpart Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu, Anambra state Head of Civil Service, Barrister Harry Uduh and other National executives for creating their time to honour his reelection bid.
