In line with the stated commitment of the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, and deliberate strategies which involves both covert and overt operations, to wipe out all criminal elements and other violent crimes in the state, Police operatives have arrested six suspects flouting the state government directive on ban on touting and illegal revenue collection, recover one SMG rifle, one magazine and four ammunition.
Six of the suspects, namely: Andrew Chukwueze ‘M’, aged 19years of Nkanu East, Enugu State, Emmanuel Charles ‘M’ aged 18years of Umualoma in Orlu, Imo State, Chigozie Bernard, ‘M’ aged 20years of Izza-west in Ebonyi state, Chibueze Nduife ‘M’ aged 30years of Ebonyi State, Nnamdi Anyigba ‘M’ aged 27years of Enugu State and Ebuka Ogidi ‘M’ age 25years of Ebonyi, between 23/3/2022 and 26/3/2022, were arrested along kara junction, Atani road and Obudogwu road while touting and collecting revenue illegally from motorists and other members of the public.

On a related incident on March 24, 2022, police operatives in a joint patrol with Vigilante group along ring-road Isiagu, Awka, sighted group of boys suspected to be armed robbers. In an attempt by police operatives to accost the suspects, they took to their heels and abandon a bag containing one SMG rifle, one Magazine and four live ammunition. Efforts are already emplaced to arrest the fleeing suspects.
The CP while reiterating the Police, as an organisation saddled with the constitutional responsibilities of protection of lives and properties as well as maintenance of law and order, assures that the Command will not fold her hands and allow some disgruntled elements to make life unbearable for the residents. He also commended the Officers and Men of the Command for their perseverance and painstaking efforts to weed out all criminal elements in the State.
The arrest was contained in a statement, made available to Tribune Online in Awka, on Sunday, by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu.
