The six members of the Anambra State House of Assembly, who recently joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, have given the reason why they left the party.
The lawmakers were welcome alongside the governorship candidate of the APC in Anambra after they travelled to Abuja and defected.
Speaking at Ekwulobia Township Stadium, in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, over the weekend, the lawmakers who took turns to speak said their former party, APGA was dying, and there was a need to leave for a better place.
Some of the lawmakers also said they joined the APC to work with its candidate, Senator Andy Uba, to connect Anambra to the centre, to ensure the dividends of democracy.
Honourable Ezeudu Lawrence, the member representing Dunukofia State Constituency, said, “We are in APC because of Andy Uba. He is a man with impeccable character. We decided to follow the man who knows the way, who will connect us to power at the centre, and benefit from what they intend to give to Anambra State.”
Hon Carter Dike, the member representing Aguata 1 said, “The symbol of our former party, the cockerel is dead. The leaders of the party have killed the cockerel, and the party is in disarray”.
Nigerian Tribune had earlier reported that the six members had last week joined APC in Abuja. They included: Nonso Okafor representing Nnewi North; Timothy Ifedioramma representing Njikoka 1; Cater D. N Umeoduagu representing Aguata 1; Lawrence Ezeudu representing Dunukofia; Arthur Chiekwu representing Idemili North and Edward Ibuzo, representing Onisha North 2.
In his address during the event at Ekwulobia, the APC Candidate in the November 6 Governorship Election, Senator Andy Uba, said that the recent presentation of the party’s flag to him at Abuja by President Mohammedu Buhari was a clear indication that APC is the only party in the country that would take Anambra State to the National grid and power.
Uba, who described the party as “the only political party in Nigeria today that has all it takes to take Anambra State to centre stage in the Country”, argued that APC as a national party, is a moving train, assuring the people that major reconstruction work would soon commence on the dilapidated Ezeuzu junction of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway axis Awka, down to the Amansea border by the Federal Government.
He decried the present poor condition of the Enugu – Onitsha Federal Highway, calling on Ndi- Anambra to remain patient as plans had been completed for the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, to visit the state for the official flag-off of reconstruction work on the road.
The State Chairman of APC, Chief Basil Ejidike, on his part, pleaded with the electorate in the state to support Senator Uba and vote for APC during the election.
According to him, the leadership of the party would not entertain any form of election rigging or any other vices that would mar the election but would abide by all electoral laws with a view to making the election free, fair and transparent in the State.
The Chairman maintained that Senator Joy Emodi and Senator Stella Oduah had recently joined the party, together with other prominent people in the state, saying that APC would not only take the state to the National Grid and power but would also transform it for better, if by the grace of God they win the November 6 Election.
The Director-General, Andy Uba Campaign Team, Chief Pual Chukwuma, who also spoke, stated that the candidate had garnered the presidential support to overwhelmingly win the election in order to introduce a major change in the socio-economic, political and infrastructural landscape of the state for the next four years.
