Anambra lawmaker flags off distribution of free eyeglasses to 10,000 constituents

A Member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, representing Anoacha One Constituency, Hon Nkechi Ogbuefi (Labour Party), in collaboration with her NGO, Nkechi Ogbuefi Charity Empowerment Initiative, has flagged off distribution of free eyes-glasses to 10,000 residents of her constituency.

Speaking during the flagging-off ceremony held at Agulu civil centre in Anoacha Local Government Area of the State, on Thursday, Ogbuefi noted that the distribution will take place across the four communities; Agulu, Adazi-Ani, Adazi-menu, and Adazi-Nnukwu that formed the constituency.

The female lawmaker explained that the beneficiaries will receive comprehensive eye care services, including, free consultations, eyeglasses, eye pressure checks, acuity tests, cataract surgery, and free blood pressure tests among others.

Hon Nkechi Ogbuefi who is also the Deputy Minority Whip in the House, stressed that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from the four above-mentioned communities and that the gesture has no political undertone.

According to her, “I have been rendering these services to the people free of charge since ten years ago with my NGO, Nkechi Ogbuefi Charity Empowerment Initiative before I was elected under the Labour Party political platform to represent the good people of Anoacha One Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly in the 2023 general elections and I promised never to disappoint my constituency. I would ensure that every one of my constituents has a test of democracy under my legislative watch.

“Their support for me and the Labour Party will not be vain.

“The eyeglasses are provided free of charge.”

Hon Ogbuefi while urging the beneficiaries to continue to support her in prayer, also appeals to those who have not benefited to be patient, noting that the gesture will run throughout her four years in office.

A Labour Party stakeholder in the area, Dr. Nweze Agachagulu commended the lawmaker for having the heart of giving and taking care of people’s health, especially, the most valuable ones.

The beneficiaries, in their unanimous appreciation, described Hon Nkechi Ogbuefi as “a gentlewoman who has been doing wonderfully well for her constituents since she became a lawmaker and they promised to vote her back to continue the good work she has started for the people of Anoacha One Constituency.
