A 38-year-old nurse, Mrs. Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe, has been arrested for allegedly inflicting injuries on her 13-year-old nephew using a heated electric iron in Anambra State.
The incident, which went viral on social media, was brought to the attention of the State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo.
The suspect, a nurse from Ezinifite in the Aguata Local Government Area, accused the victim of stealing from her. After the abuse, she reportedly locked him up at home without providing any medical attention.

“I disciplined him after he stole from me,” she said.
Speaking shortly after rescuing the victim, a visibly angry Commissioner Obinabo stated that the suspect had been handed over to the police for further investigation.
She warned potential offenders to desist from such acts or face the full force of the law, emphasizing that such heinous behavior would not be tolerated in the state.
She also assured the public that justice would be served in this case.
“It is important to note that the suspect currently has no children of her own, which is why her young nephew was under her care,” she added.
