Anambra govt to wage war against rickety, faulty vehicles

Published by

The Government of Anambra State under Governor Willie Obiano has commissioned the Anambra Computerised Vehicle Testing Service(ANCVTS) Awka centre, thus setting the stage for ‘war’ against rickety and faulty vehicles.

Obiano, while speaking at the commissioning ceremony at ANCVTS Building, Awka,  said that the service would provide world class vehicle inspection that would usher numerous benefits to the state, the Southeast and South-south states being the first to be established in the two geo-political zones.

The centre would operate under the supervision of Temple SYC Inspection Limited and the State Ministry of Road, Rail and Water Transportation.

According to the Governor, the advantages derivable from the system include enhanced road safety, environmental protection, long term revenue for government and better security among others.

He described the introduction of the ANCVTS as part of the current transformation process in the state, stressing that safety and security were key components, not only in the transformation but all other sectors of the society.

Obiano said that with the increasing challenges posed by rapid population growth, including greater vehicular movement within the state capital, Awka, the introduction of computerised vehicle testing service had become imperative.

He pointed out that his administration decided to involve the private sector because it was not possible for government to exclusively implement all the programmes.

He described Temple SYC Limited, the operators of the ANCVTS as capable and trustworthy, adding that they had been versatile in other sectors, including power and finance.
