Anambra govt places priority on rural roads, Works Commissioner says

Published by

Anambra government says its priority is to open up the rural communities by building good roads and bridges to connect them to major towns and cities in the state.
Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, the Commissioner for Works, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Wednesday.

According to Ifejiofor, Gov. Willie Obiano’s target is to link the remotest part of the state with road to give produce markets in the communities a boost. He said that the government was currently building roads in the riverine areas.

He cited the 42-km Aguleri-Otu Road as well as 9-km Umueje-Anambra River Oilfield-Ololo Road as some of the recently constructed roads in the riverine areas of the state.
“The state government is constructing a road from Mmiata to Nzam Iyiora, a suburb of Awka.
“Others are the Ogwu-Anaocha and Ogwu-Ikpele roads both in Ogbaru Local Government Area where we have an oilfield.
“The administration is doing this because it does not want to fail in delivering any of its promises to the people of the state on roads,” he said.
The commissioner said that the administration was not interested in comparing its road projects with those of the previous administrations’ governments, which were concentrated on the upland.

He said the roads would facilitate rapid development in the rural areas when completed.
He also said that the state government created the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency to maintain failed portions of the roads in the cities.
He, therefore, urged the people to continue to give maximum support to the present administration.
