STATE government has canvassed for increased funding for education, being the hallmark of the twenty-first century development.
The Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke stated this on behalf of Governor Willie Obiano, when he received in audience, the twenty-One Member Committee of the House of Representatives on Basic Education and Services, led by its Chairman, Hon Zakari Mohammed.
The delegation is in the State for oversight functions on ASUBEB Projects across the State.
According to Dr Okeke, the State government is making concerted efforts to develop the Education Sector, in line with United Nations stipulations, urging the federal government to dedicate more funds to the sector as it will go a long way in repositioning the sector.
While pointing out that State government has not reneged in its payment of its counterpart funds for ASUBEB projects across the State, Deputy Governor Okeke tasked the Committee to ensure unbiased and well-articulated report, that would attract informed actions, adding that Anambra State has been coming tops in external exams as well as extracurricular activities.
The leader of the delegation, Honourable Mohammed, commended the State government for proper utilization of the counterpart funds so far released to the State, saying that their visits to States were informed by incidents of abuse in some States.
He promised to share their reports with State government through the State Ministry of Education, for actions.
Earlier, the State Education Commissioner, Professor Kate Omunugha commended the committee for coming to the State.
Later in a vote of thanks, the Chairman of ASUBEB, Chief Nzemeka Olisa while assuring that all the observations have been duly noted, commended the State government for ensuring that teachers’ welfare are enhanced, noting that the State has witnessed a steady progressive change in the Education sector among comity of States, these past years.
