Anambra gov’s wife vows justice for woman assaulted by husband

Anambra Governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has assured that the man who allegedly assaulted his wife and left her in a near-death condition would face full justice.

Mrs Soludo gave the assurance over the weekend in Awka, after she visited the victim at a hospital in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.

“On November 30, 2024, a viral amateur video appeared on social media showing a woman who appeared badly battered and lying helplessly by a bush path at night, clutching onto her eight-month-old baby.

While being questioned by passersby who met her there, the woman, Mrs Ifeoma Nwafor, from Ajango Village, Amaokpala, Orumba North Local Government Area, alleged that her husband, Chukwujekwu Nwafor, had assaulted her over a misunderstanding.

Upon coming across the video, Mrs Soludo immediately directed that the woman be reached out to and taken to the hospital to ensure she gets the best medical care while efforts are made to apprehend the said culprit.

When she visited the private medical facility where the woman had been taken, the governor’s wife, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, spoke with the doctor, who confirmed that the woman had received adequate treatment for the injuries sustained to her face and head.

Mrs Soludo, after speaking with the victim, settled her full bills and immediately made arrangements to secure a job with Orumba North Local Council Area, from where she could make sustainable earnings to take care of her two kids.

Mrs Soludo has also made arrangements for the supply of food items to the family early next week.

The governor’s wife also assured that the culprit would face full justice, reiterating her commitment to protecting women and children in Anambra State from domestic violence and abuse.

Mrs Soludo further stated that the state, under the present administration, takes a zero-tolerance stance on abuse of any kind and maintained that anyone found guilty of such crimes would be comprehensively dealt with.
