Anambra gov’s wife celebrates state’s first baby of 2025

The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has acknowledged the birth of Anambra’s first baby of the year 2025 as a redefining blessing for a renewed and more prosperous Anambra State.

Anambra’s first baby boy of the year 2025, who weighed 2.4 kilogrammes, was born at General Hospital Nnobi Community, in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, through normal delivery to Mrs. Elizabeth Nwachukwu, from Enugu State, at exactly eighteen minutes past twelve o’clock in the morning, on January 1st, 2025.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the Anambra’s first baby celebration is an annual event conceived by the governor’s wife to honour babies born in the earliest minutes of the New Year’s day in the state.

While speaking to journalists at the premises of Ekwulobia General Hospital, Ekwulobia, in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, where she also showered New Year gifts on babies born today, Mrs. Soludo urged mothers to focus more on exclusive breastfeeding.

The governor’s wife, who is also the founder of the Nonye Soludo Healthy Living Initiative, said it was certain that the newborn would bring blessings to his immediate family, Anambra State, and Nigeria at large.

“I do this every year, and we are here today to welcome our new babies into the world, celebrate with their families, and to show our love, kindness, and gratitude to God.

“I’m so impressed with the health workers and their relentless efforts in rendering effective services to the mothers and their babies.

“I also want to encourage the mothers to live a healthy lifestyle and observe the mandatory exclusive breastfeeding period of six months to make their babies healthy and good-looking.

“I felt happy to witness the free delivery, which she added was part of her husband’s vision of making Anambra a livable and prosperous homeland in Nigeria.

“Exclusive breastfeeding will not only make the baby healthy and strong, it will also help reduce unnecessary spending on health issues,” she said.

She commended the state government’s efforts in improving maternal and child health policies, upgrading healthcare facilities, and ensuring accessible and affordable services.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, urged mothers to make use of the state government’s free antenatal and delivery care services as well as immunisation.

While appreciating the governor’s wife for the gestures, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwachukwu said she did not pay for the antenatal care and delivery services she enjoyed.

She also promised to canvass votes for Governor Soludo’s second term election come November 8th, 2025.
