Anambra community celebrates new yam festival

THE Traditional Ruler and the people of Ukwulu community in Dunukofia Local government Area of Anambra state, Igwe Peter Uyanwa has celebrated the 2018 New Yam festival in grand style.

Members of his cabinet, some traditional rulers in the State and top government functionaries, political gladiators, friends and well-wishers attended the ceremony which took place in his palace.

Performing the ceremony, Igwe Uyanwa, described the new yam festival as a moment of thanking God, for his mercies, pointing out that the history between God, Man and yam is very mysterious.

Igwe Uyanwa who is also the Chairman of the Traditional rulers Council in Anambra Central Senatorial District maintained that the new yam festival equally affords the people the opportunity to come together to showcase their rich cultural heritage and commended the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano for his purposeful leadership in the State.

He described Ukwulu community as peace-loving community pledging their continuous support to the leadership of Governor Obiano and his wife Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu as they strive towards taking the State to an enviable height.

Speaking during the event, the Member representing Anambra Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Victor Umeh said that Igwe Uyanwa has touched many lives with his God giving wealth.

Contributing, a two-time Chairman of Anambra West Local government Area, Chief Raphael Okeke, described New yam festival as a period when the people thank God forgiven them good health and gift of life.

The President-General of Ukwulu Community, Chief Walter Okafor described the new yam festival as biblical because according to him it is a moment of giving thanks to God with the firstfruits harvest.

For Chiefs Ofordile Okafor, Ikechukwu Ilodi-Okafor, Innocent Okwudike, Prince Morroco Maduka and Mr Chukwudi Onuorah parents and teachers should always teach the children and wards Igbo language and culture to save it from going into extinction.
