Anambra central rerun: APGA candidate, Umeh expresses satisfaction

Chief Victor Umeh

THE people of the Central Senatorial District of Anambra State on Saturday participated in the rerun election to elect a replacement for the sacked Senator Uche Ekwunife of the PDP, who was removed by the Appeal Court, one and a half years ago, on the ground that she was not duly nominated by her party, PDP.

The late arrival of voting materials was observed across polling stations in Aruma and Unizik junctions both in Awka South Local Government Area.

Despite apathy in the process, many voters were seen in their number already on queue to vote, while few voters had already voted as at 10:25 am when our correspondent visited the two polling unit.

The accreditation and voting exercise for the senatorial rerun election commenced peacefully with a little turn out of electorates.

At Aguluzoigbo, the country home of All Progressive Grand Alliance, candidate, Chief Victor Umeh, there was a peaceful atmosphere as voters trooped out en masse to vote for their son.

However, Umeh the APGA candidate voted at 11:14 am at ward 2, unit 6 Aguluzigbo, Anoacha Council Area and pledged to do the best if voted to the Senate, he then expressed satisfaction.

Also in Ifite a town in Awka South Local Government Area, voting materials and voters arrived a little late while security men were seen at strategic spots along Onitsha-Enugu road.
