In Idemili South and North Local Government Areas, INEC ad hoc staff and security men arrived before 9 am while the process is yet to commence on schedule as at the time of filing this report.
The Africa Democratic Congress, ADC agent at Ikezue 11, Ward 3, Unit 6 where materials have just arrived, Mr Azu Ike commended INEC for arriving at the polling unit on time. He said the process had been peaceful and smooth since commencement.
”For now, the process is free and fair and I hope it will continue until the end of the exercises.”
At Aguluzoigbo, Unit 1, Ward 3 in Anaocha Local Government Area, where the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Chief Victor Umeh voted at 11:14 am, accreditation and voting also commenced on a peaceful note.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) agent at the polling unit, Ikpor Mr Ikena, who speaking, said the electoral process was still free and fair.
The MMPP agent, Hon Ben Chuks also described the process as smooth.
Nigerian Tribune also reports that the turn out of the electorate was impressive in some of the polling units visited at about 12:05 pm.
Voters in Njikoka Local Government also turned out for accreditation and voting. At Polling unit 2 Ward five, the INEC presiding officer, Mrs Grace Edem, said the card reader machines were working well.
The agent of the APGA, Boniface Emeka, and his ADC counterpart, Ike confirmed that the process had been smooth.
Two police officers and one NSCDC officer were seen some metres away monitoring the exercise.
Security was also beefed up on major roads in the affected local government areas where the election was taking place.
The election did not affect, Awka the state capital, and shops, as well as markets, were some traders open for business activities.
The election was called following the sack of Sen Uche Ekwunife by the Appeal Court on the grounds that she was not the duly nominated candidate of the PDP who was representing the district at the Senate.
