The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed Justice Onochie Anyachebelu as the substantive Chief Judge of the state.
The state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano had earlier sent a letter requesting for his confirmation.
The confirmation followed a motion by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Nnamdi Okafor (Awka South I ) and seconded by the deputy majority leader (Orumba North), to confirm the Governor’s nominee at the plenary session, on Tuesday.
He said the governor’s request was in compliance with the provision of section 271 sub-section (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In confirming the request, the House adopted a report presented by the House Committee on Screening and Election Matters which recommended the confirmation of Anyachebelu.
The Assembly confirmed Anyachebelu’s appointment after a voice vote conducted by the Speaker of the House, Mr Uche Okafor.
The Speaker, who presided over the sitting declared Anyachebelu as confirmed following a unanimous voice vote.

In his remarks, Anyachebelu assured the assembly of his resolved to sanitise the judiciary by improving access to justice and speedy dispensation of justice, especially as affect criminal matters.
He also promised to rehabilitate all judicial infrastructure across the state to make them more habitable and conducive.
“I have been in acting capacity for some months now, and I can tell you that our greatest challenge is the paucity of funds but we will make do with what we have to make the State judiciary better, ” he said.
