Over one hundred and fifty members of Progressives People’s Alliance (PPA) including the Anambra state Chairman of the party, Sir Daniel Igbokwubili and his executive, on Saturday, stormed the office of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to pledge unalloyed support to Mr Godwin Ezeemo gubernatorial ambition on Anambra 2021 poll.
Ezeemo, a two-term governorship candidate of PPA, had been a major financier of the party prior to his defection to PDP in 2018. The event, Tribune Online learnt, was staged to enable him officially inform the state working committee of PDP of his total commitment as a stakeholder of the party to reposition PDP and move Anambra state forward.
Igbokwubili, who is also the President-General Team Ezeemo, flanked by the women leader of PPA, Mrs Tina Onwuzuluike, Mrs Ndid Okoye Okoye (Treasurer), Hon. Ifeanyi Odikaesieme – Deputy Chairman (South), Kenechukwu Onwuzo (Publicity Secretary), and others, said had resolved to join Ezeemo to actualise his political ambition due to his leadership charisma and vision for Anambra state and Igbo nation generally.
“I trust PDP on its stand for fairness and transparency. The voice of people is the voice of God. I believe that if you give him support to emerge as the candidate of this party, we shall surely work with you to capture the Anambra state seat of power. PDP has the capacity to win the 2021 gubernatorial poll. We have a vibrant state party executive and members which will give PDP maximum support,” he stated.
On his part, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, while handing over 18-seater bus and financial assistance for the upkeep of PDP in the state, commended its leadership and members for welcoming him into their fold and for been free and fair on its activities in 2019 general elections.
“I am an individual with a passion to make Anambra, Igbo nation, Nigeria and Africa best place to live. I have lived in London and Lagos state for long. I decided to return to my home town permanently out of my own volition. We are suffering here. I want to play a part in making us smile again. Black man must emancipate. I want to make Igbo realise and utilise their creative ingenuity.
“I want to officially inform you that I will run for the governorship election in 2021. Don’t see me as an ambitious man. I would have quitted politics if my venturing into politics is out of ambition. But it is a passion to render selfless services. A passion to uplift the Igbo nation,” he said.
Responding, the Chairman, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra state chapter, Sir Ndubuisi Nwobu, while welcoming Ezeemo and his entourage, thanked him for coming to showcase the party to limelight.
Nwobu also urged him to continue canvassing support from members, assuring that the party would conduct free and fair gubernatorial primary.
