Speaking with journalists during an election debate organized by Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), in Awka, Anambra State, about his plans to boost the state’s economy, Nweze said he would do “everything” within his means to make farming an enviable profession for farmers and youths with the aim of making them employers of labour.
According to the Businessman cum Politician, farmers would experience the best of time under his regime, adding that they would be insured against any eventuality, including attacks by herdsmen.
He also said fish farmers would be insured against flooding, adding that he would empower cassava farmers in order to enhance the production and exportation of premium garri to the most developed country.
He said, “Because of my priority for the economy in general and farming in particular, I will institute a scheme whereby our farmers will be insured against any eventuality, including herdsmen attacks.
“The businesses of our farmers, including fish farmers, will be insured so that when they suffer any loss, there will be compensation for them. There will be state lands for state farms in all the senatorial districts, where farmers would have the opportunity to earn more and employ people as well. They will also get free seedlings.
“We want to make our people self-reliant as much as we can and we are determined to complement what the present government is doing in that direction and bring more innovations that will make farming a preferred profession in the state, the awaiting gov said.
