A 13-year-old boy, Timilehin Femi, identified as the ring leader of a robbery gang involved in a series of robberies in Ijare and its environs in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, has said he went to robbery to be popular through robbery and was nicknamed Anini.

The kid robber was arrested by men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun, with two other members of his robbery gang, Sunday Ojo, known as Oyenusi, and Matti Lowe known as Osunbor.

The young Anini who is the only son of her mother was arrested along with his middle-aged mother, Iyabo Femi and a 24-year-old herbalist, Adeyemi Ayodele, who acted as the armourers.

Speaking, the young boy said he had carried out countless successful operations in the area with his gang.

He disclosed that the herbalist and her mother fortified him against being arrested and said he had participated successfully in countless robberies in Ijare, Ilara-Mokin and other environs since he was 11-years-old.

According to him, he said that apart from making charms for him, the herbalist used to sell off the proceeds from their robbery while he will bring the money to share among themselves.

He said “I have been participating in robbery since I was 11-years-old. I used to keep my gun inside the ceiling and sometimes I used to give it to our herbalist to keep. I also give to my mother at times, who used to fortify me with charm so that I won’t be caught.

“After robbery operations, we used to hand over the stolen goods to the herbalist who will in turn sell it. But we don’t hand over any cash to him. I have participated in so many operations in the last year.”

Another member of the group, 15-year-old Sunday Ojo, known as Oyenusi, said “I have lost counts of the robbery operations I have been involved in. I was given the name Oyenusi by people within my neighbourhood.”

The mother of the ring leader, Iyabo Femi, said she knew about her son’s escapades but denied fortifying him to always evade arrest but said she sought spiritual intervention in a church.

She said, “My son used to engage in robbery anytime he sees Sunday. I took him to church so that he won’t be robbing again and I was given a soap that I used to bathe him by the riverside.”

Speaking on the arrest of the teenagers and their herbalist, the Amotekun Commandant, Chief Adetunji Adeleye said the suspects had been terrorising Ijare and its environs saying his men have been on the trail of the suspects for some period.

He said the teenagers were arrested with locally-made pistols and guns along with the mother of the 13-year-old boy who was arrested for aiding and assisting the armed robbery gang while it was discovered that the gang led by her only child had been hiding their guns with her.

Adeleye said, “In our usual resolute determination to guarantee lives and property, we commenced 24 hours patrol in the 18 local governments in the state with the assistance of all other security agencies in the state.

“It is amazing that we have a second-time armed robber who named himself Anini and the 13-year-old had confessed that he usually climbs stool to keep his weapon in the ceiling.

“He has confessed that he is being empowered by his mother to guarantee that nobody could arrest him.

“Now he has graduated to a full-blown armed robber and he operates a seven group member. He is the youngest but he is the most vicious and powerful.
